No Signal? No Problem (At Camp Joy, Anyway)

As I drove through the hills of Provence today, one thing made me smile—even while I was mid-stress: No one attending Camp Joy will ever have to deal with this.
Seriously. If you’re coming to Camp Joy, you won’t be worrying about internet signals dropping, getting lost on winding backroads, or figuring out which medieval village gate leads you to the right place. We’ve got it all handled—airport pickups, curated itineraries, even where to park. Whether you’re coming with a friend or flying solo on a women’s retreat in Provence, you’ll be free to exhale the moment you arrive.
But today? Today was not that.

I was making my way from L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to Gordes, then looping back to Ménerbes, when suddenly… silence. My internet dropped out completely. And strangely, so did the radio. Just me, my car, and a complete lack of digital guidance.

I had to rely on old-fashioned road signs, and to be honest—I was stressed. My palms were sweating. My heart was racing. But somehow, I pieced it together. I found my way back, slowly and not-so-surely, through roundabouts and rustic road markers.
Back at my Airbnb, I finally reconnected to Wi-Fi, sent a quick message to my sister (we’d been mid-call when everything cut out), and poured myself a very well-earned glass of rosé.
The truth? I’m proud of myself. Traveling alone pushes you—but it also proves to you that you’re capable. That you can figure things out. That joyful living sometimes looks like a small victory on a country road.
And it was also a reminder of why we created Camp Joy: to offer women a chance to experience this beautiful part of the world without the overwhelm. You get the beauty, the culture, the connection—but not the confusion.
So yes, I found my way today. But if you’re coming to Camp Joy, you won’t have to. We’ll be waiting for you—with directions, a welcome hug, and probably a glass of rosé.
